FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL. No amount of caps, ~wavy lines~, or alternative spellings could possibly sum up the level of fail displayed in this article and the comments thereupon. A state funeral for this harpy is a sickening idea. The fucking statue was bad enough. When she passes away, I'm going to gather together some ex-miners and we'll have a Smiths disco, I think. But seriously, I don't want to lay on the northern proletariat credentials here - I don't have the accent for that. But I come from a working family (particularly on my dad's side) and while not many of them were directly affected by her decimation of industry, I've seen for myself the damage she did. Times of walked around Sunderland and seen all the derelict shipyards that are now parks for chavs to shoot up in, old pit villages which basically became smack villages because everyone there lost their livelihood and self-respect in one swoop - how can anyone honour a person who was responsible for that? Sure, she reversed economic decline, but at the cost of just about everything else.

Looking at it another way, we should ensure old Maggie is remembered as an example of what not to do and how to make yourself hated. But how many people would read into that correctly?

The comments on that page are such a joke. Thatcher wouldn't let Britain get into the mess it is today? Fuck, are there actually people out there so snobbish, or so completely blinded by magazines and pop video porn, that they're entirely oblivious as to how things came to be? Britain is in the sorry state it is today for many reasons, several of them a result of what she did! If we still had industry and the employment and sense of pride that came with it, I bet there wouldn't be half as many binge drinkers and juvenile delinquents. She paved the way for the terrible Blairite optimism that got us where we are today, and perhaps worst of all, she's ensured that any strong female leader who emerges will be branded with her image and treated with suspicion. Everyone in London seemingly continues to love her, but we know what's up around here.

Oh, it's grim up north. In more inane news:

Can you believe she turned thirty-one yesterday? Because I'm struggling to! Especially when you consider how youthful her music and mannerisms are. Happy belated birthday, Maya, and thank you for unwittingly conspiring with Patty Wolf and Burial to give me faith in the future of music. I wish I'd done something to celebrate, but I doubt I'd have been able to find a cake colourful enough. Though I did wear a red top that's considerably brighter than most of my wardrobe yesterday. Ooh, and I ate a mango yoghurt, which is kind of like mango pickle? I should've salt and peppered it, hur hur.
- Here's another example of my brother being charming enough to make you sick: he's recently been obsessing over this song (do not under any circumstances click that link if you're sans headphones and have other people in your general vicinity - otherwise, I encourage you to bask in the glory of Nick Cave's Take That shirt, if you haven't done so before), and apparently it can inspire acceptable schoolwork. He spent most of his music lesson yesterday mucking about when he was supposed to be designing a CD cover, but realised he'd have to do something otherwise he wouldn't be allowed to go on the keyboards. So he wrote something along the lines of "Mr. Motherf%*!er, don't you know who I am?", drew some swirly patterns, handed it in, and hoped for the best. Later his teacher approached him looking very srs bznz with the work in his hand, wondering if it was his. He answered in the affirmative, expecting a telling off, only to be asked if he was a Nick Cave fan and given an approving nod for it! Jesus! How the hell did he get away with that? Suave little bastard, and he only knows that one song anyway. Fucking hipsters. Still, we all know I'm only jealous because when I was fourteen I wasn't cool enough to up my marks with similar ease.
- Apparently I've never related this story, and in fact I've just remembered why, but never mind that. When my dad lived in Oxford a few years ago, he served Radiohead in the pub all the time! Or at least, he served Radiohead until he was fired for telling them their music was shit, to which Thom apparently replied "Mark's desperate for staff again, isn't he?" Ilu Thom. For the record, he doesn't actually think they're shit, they're just ~not for him~ and he got sick of the landlord, apparently the biggest fanboy ever, playing their music all the time.
- Ooh, what does everyone think of the new-look last.fm? It's quicker to load and doesn't seem to confusing, so it's all good by me. But where's the dashboard? I'll miss stalking everyone. I know it's so three years ago to care about lame.fm, but this is me we're talking about.
